Back to School Advice: Pedestrian vs. Automobile at School Crossings
The first thing your children must realize is if you are the pedestrian, you are not winning a battle with a car. Personal injuries from this type of accident can be very extensive if not fatal. So remind your children, even if they have the right of way, vehicles cannot always stop and unfortunately drivers do not always pay attention.
A car traveling at 35 miles per hour could cover over 45 feet in a second. So to avoid being injured, your child must understand how fast the distance closes and to take extra time when cross a street.
